B.I.O.N.I.C. Outreaches to Make a Difference this Summer!

It’s Summer! B.I.O.N.I.C. wants to help you not only have a fun summer but to help kids learn some valuable life skills and lessons.

Summer Outreach Activities
B.I.O.N.I.C. knows that families and groups look for ways to fill the calendar during the summer. How about including some activities as a family for bonding, and also to make a difference in your neighborhood and community! How about your social group participating in outreaches? We have some ideas on how to strategize and then put those ideas into action to positively impact those around you. What a great way to say “Believe It Or Not I Care.” So, if you have a family (or maybe you want to do these in a youth group, group of friends, etc.) you will love these activities.

On Friday of each week we will send an e-mail about a category of an outreach for the following week that will be listed on the calendar below. Then we encourage you to meet as a family or group on the weekend to talk through the idea and plan out the outreach.

Week 1: For example, the suggestion for the first week in June is to cheer up a senior citizen or several. Think through any senior citizens you know of who may need some help or encouragement. Do you have a grandparent or an elderly neighbor, call them (on a speakerphone so the whole family/group can hear) to ask what they need or how you can encourage them – landscaping, a picnic, organizing their garage, etc. Or how about contacting a local senior living center and asking how many residents are there and if you can make a card for every resident. Or do a search on the Internet for “free coloring book pages” to color a picture for every resident. Then talk about a day and time for the outreach. Use this form to plan the details giving each person responsibilities in carrying out the activity. Then submit the outreach information here by Saturday night (11:59 pm) of that week. Then every two weeks this summer we will be drawing a name of one of the family/groups who did the outreach during those two weeks for a prize.

Bully Prevention Webinars
There has been an increase in bullying this last year. We know that as kids are gathering in groups this summer in neighborhoods, camps, churches, and other settings. It’s important to help kids understand bullying, know how to prevent bullying, and what to do if they are bullied.  Keep an eye out for Bully Prevention Webinars we will be holding soon. Stop back for more information.

S.T.O.P. Bullying Course
And for those who would like more training in this area, we are creating an online course to help parents and kids understand more about bullying and how to prevent it in their communities.
S – Support your child by creating awareness around what bullying is and what to do if you see it
T – Take action after a bullying incident to recover your child’s emotional well-being quickly
O – Obtain strategies to safeguard your student from being bullied
P – Prevent future bullying in your community by empowering your circle, neighborhood, school, church, and realm of influence.
